I work at a bank and we deny all transactions where the customer is attempting to buy crypto-currency with their credit line - for this very reason.

And, again and again, we are told cryptocurrencies are safe, a fiat currency, which is, of course, the thing. If a cryptocurrency exchange can't provide cyber-security would it be unfair to be more than a little doubtful?

Whats in question is NOT the technology , (i.e legitimacy of blockchain ), but an issue of security. Exchanges quickly learned not to leave a large amount on cryptocoins in hot wallets( internet), unfortunately they were overconfident of their security .

Can't say I see the connection between technology and legitimacy. I'm not sure that I am reassured but thank you for the insight.
