No, it’s sad that the public seems to think teachers are supposed to be less human than the rest of society. It’s sad that working conditions are so bad that dedicated teachers leave the profession rather than put up with constant ridicule for stuff they can’t control.

It’s sad that schools are treated like businesses and words like “customers” are used to describe students. It’s sad that rather than seeing students as learners, they’re seen as numbers & low numbers seen as “failure” of teachers, not results of poverty & home life.

It’s sad this propaganda becomes the reason for charter schools & vouchers & school choice proponents, all stealing money & resources in a vicious cycle of stripping the fabric of public ed away from those who need it most.

And it’s sad that public figures such as Campbell Brown think they know what’s best for public education when their kids don’t need public ed. Mine need teachers who are real people who are frustrated with the system and sometimes tell a bitchy student he/she’s being bitchy.

That is what unions do. They force employers to keep bad employees.

As a teacher in NY, I can’t wait to retire. We spend more time proving we are capable of doing our jobs than doing our jobs!

There is no one else. Years of smashing and blaming teachers and not paying them what they deserve have decreased the numbers of people going into teaching. You try it.

With a broken system, solely blaming on teachers’ teaching incompetence is not right at the first place!

Of course they end up back in the classroom. They are supported by progressive educators who vote for them. Doing what's best for our children takes a back seat. Union is in it for the 30years and out contract. Shame shame shame

We spend more money per student than ever before but until we bring discipline back into schools and protect teachers from irrational parents in denial about their children we are baby sitting delinquents that are keeping others from learning no amount of money would matter!

That's why there should be no public sector unions. We spend entirely too much money on government and education not to be able to get rid of non-productive people.

Kick out the hedge fund managers who disproportionately supply tax revenue to the state, and keep incompetent teachers who steal a salary and benefits to not teach your kids. Cuomo is a clown.
