The Hollywood/Jimmy Stewart era had plenty of fellas who weren't gentlemen. They didn't just make up the words "casting couch" last week. America doesn't just need more gentlemen, but gentle PEOPLE. A little bit of self-respect and respect for others would go a long way.

There need to be more women who have higher standards to require gentleman behavior.

America has plenty of gentlemen, I live with 5 of them. The shaming of men is out of control..

How so? Seems the deplorable men are getting shamed 98% of the time. Fine with me.

Lovely piece. Interesting how some are reading it as an attack on men though. Or as a pass for being unladylike. The point is to be kind anyway. I think they call that The Golden Rule.

There’s a time for plain speaking and a time to speak like a gentleman exercising moderation in speech and decorum. I enjoyed this article - thank you for writing it. My father, God rest his soul, raised me to be a gentleman by word and deed. My mistakes have only been my own.

Obviously you missed her point altogether. We also need people who don't read false narratives into clear syntax.
