Concern about privacy is still important to many Americans. Just because machines can be programmed to do something or "learn" about/from individuals, it might not be the ethical/moral thing to do. That's a big difference between us & the Chinese.

You seem to imply if they have a choice. They can't lose they don' have now or had in several generations. From purely tech pov smart(er) AI as a result of lax privacy is not a given.
