Standard Oil was a tech pioneer until it started stifling competition and was broken up. Should today's tech titans face a similar fate?http://on.wsj.com/2rffKpT

Uhh...except Standard Oil is now chevron who bought nearly everyone back up. Banks, Airlines, Energy and Cell companies need to be broken up before you touch tech lol

Only a matter of time before these giants are broken up. They have a death grip over most of the internet

In the 80s IBM brought out the PC and every regulator on earth put their anti-trust shoes. But within a decade IBM almost went bust.

Nope. Standard Oil was pumping a somewhat finite resource. And ultimately controlling price.

absolutely, break them up, force them to compete, and NEVER ever approach allowing something like sopa/pipa and net neutrality happen to protect a free and open tech market and ensure it remains such.

I think today’s tech giants are helping our intel agencies and that keeps them insulated from anti trust. Remember Microsoft in 90s they weren’t half as “anti-trusty” as today’s companies.

Are you speaking a a Russian when you say “our intelligence”? Facebook and Twitter are helping the FSB far more than the CIA.

Understood I was being facetious. Twitter and FB are in deep doodoo (a legal term) for aiding and abetting Russian influence on the Trumpopalypse.

They are piling up options. They should learn from predecessors and care for the public interest. It’s sad to see how 21st century companies turn often into would be monopolies.
