The move from 25000 to 26000 was by far the Dow's fastest ascent from one round-number milestone to the nexthttp://on.wsj.com/2rg5uxC

Math isn't difficult. This will be increasingly common. Going from 25,000 to 26,000 is a 4% gain. Going from 1,000 to 2,000 is a 100% gain. Relative changes matter, not absolute.

FINALLY! Someone else who understands #DenominatorsMatter. Meaningless milestone. Each +1,000 DJIA move is a SMALLER percentage increase from last one. As a comparison, on 11/30/2011 the DJIA moved +490.05 points to close at 12,045.68. A +4.24% change in ONE day.

Yep, on Black Monday, the Dow fell 500 points, half as much as claimed here, yet represented a 22% drop

Wouldn’t that make sense? Each thousand point marker is a smaller percentage of the whole as you get bigger.
