The Confederate emblem on Mississippi's flag stirs passions. Lawmakers are mulling a compromise: two state flagshttp://on.wsj.com/2r6wn7d

I know this will piss off some...It's time for a single new state flag. Two flags would harden the existing division, a single new flag would eventually help further unite the state. Imagine if Germany still had a swastika on their flag.

The very reason we need more lawmakers of color - and decent white humans - is to let them know that there is no compromise on racism. Full stop. How can the Confederate emblem on a state flag be anything but state-endorsed racism?

Why would you consider a traitorous flag could be considered of “equal status and dignity” with the Stars and Stripes?

There should be no compromise. Get that symbol of racism off that flag!

stars and bars (CSA flag) and the CSA battle flag in the corner. It’s two confederate flags. Learn your history

Could the alternative flag then feature a symbol representing the historical oppression of white southerners? Perhaps a rainbow symbol or a picture of Obama would do? Perhaps it’s only me, but if my lineage was tied to systemic racism I’d want as little to do w/ it as possible

If you have two flags the flag that retains the confederate battle flag would mostly be flown in areas where blacks and minorities are not welcome. Sounds almost like a plan to create a soft system of segregation.

I don't know why they think this is a solution of any kind. Those who oppose the confederate version will still be offended it exists, and those who prefer it would have just continued flying it anyway. Is the plan for government buildings to fly both?

Because that's just not going to work as a solution at all.

Wasn't there a slave trade under the stars and stripes in the 1800's as well? I just wish people weren't so narrow minded, attempting to change history all the time. Learn from it and move on.

Here's a solution...place confederate flag in museum with story of what it represents to both sides, emphasizing the fact that it represents white supremacy and US does not stand for this kind of hatred
