Private schools are lowering tuition, ramping up marketing and targeting traditionally underrepresented communities to reverse a national enrollment decline.http://on.wsj.com/2CbGPiJ

Publishers need to dramatically lower textbook prices as well. $300 for a calculus text-often riddled with typos-is outrageous.

Good. We need a voucher system and consumer driven, not government driven, education.

@bayareahausfrau Yeah, it costs a lot to get your kids a good education these days... since public schools really only teach to the state mandated tests... Sad. All the while parents of private schooled kids are paying tuition and Taxes to their community and state ...

When you make education a private business - you have taken away the quality but starved the population. Amazingly, tuition is paid for low quality education. Education reform is needed badly too.

Public education is synonymous with "quality"??

Not in NYC... with less than a 40% proficiency in math and English, NYC public schools are the antithesis of quality.

Agreed. Public school is a death path sadly. Thus, why do people pay high taxes again? Begs a rough question. And taxpayers still end up paying hefty private school tuition as well.

Problem: If they adhere to the CCSS, the kids will still be as educated as rocks and maybe worse, as Marxists.

Nice try, but still consider families of 4 with 1 income making $75,000 as WEALTHY!! Biggest issue with schools, including colleges, is books. Such a racket. I paid $75 for a required book, sold it back for $11, and they resold it for $45. That is THEFT!!!
