Before eating I recommend choosing a meal that maximizes the Utility-to-Calorie ratio, thus consuming the Markowitz Portfolio of meals. @econdiet @barnettenergy @chrisxpayne @WSJ

Haha. Love it Jeff! Back in my consulting days, we days we used Markowitz portfolio theory to help utilities select the optimal mix of power plants between coal, gas, nuclear & renewable technologies. Never thought about applying it to diet, but I love the idea! -r

Our most important gadget is obsolete. The human body. Humans should invest in biotech more than on cell phones, computers or cars. Is that not obvious?

We’d love for science to bring us guilt-free Doritos and other miracles. But for now, we’ve got to rely on restraint / behavior-modification to achieve a healthy weight.

No wonder economics is called the dismal science if diet promoters promise 'a lifetime of restrained behavior',with hunger pangs, monitoring food and missing meals... This misses the fact that fat is retained if the body detects scarcity, so butter makes you lose weight...pic.twitter.com/8v8w05UhlQ

We’re both huge fans of butter; but the claim that butter helps you lose weight is dubious at best! We’ve got nothing against an occasional steak that’s dripping in butter, but we recommend reserving such meals for special occasions!

Hi, I'm an economist myself and original tweet was going to joke around the invisible hand reaching for the cake. I think the counter-intuitive point is not made often enough is that the body takes on fat when it senses food is scarce, so butter fools it. Good luck with the book
