The problem with this plan is that if they don't want help, they forcing it on them is an effort in futility.

I agree with you in a sense but there is minimal literature that says cohersive actions don't work maybe tough love other than jail can work

I agree that jail as a drug rehab facility is not the answer. The problem is that we are trying to fix the symptoms instead of the cause. A lot of treatments fail because the person goes back to the same environment that caused the opioid use in the first place.

Agreed... Treat the individual not the symptoms and yes environmental factors are huge ads well as socioeconomic status

Opioid addiction is usually started because of an injury. It turns into a trash addiction when the doctors stop the pain meds they handed out like candy. Trust me. Nobody wants to be addicted to opioids, so giving them the help they need is a must.

I worked for over 4 years with children and their families in Southeastern Ohio, and I can tell you that addicts accepting they have a problem is pretty common . . . but they don't go to /or stay in, treatment. Hurts them and their kids.

You have to want to break addiction to win the fight. I'm not sure what good forcing people would do.

Rehab only works when the patient is ready. Involuntary rehab is a waste of money.

But we can learn from them, instead of assuming the good ol' American way of imposing a cure is the best path to healing.

Heroin addicts (mostly black community): they need to make better choices in life. Opioid addicts (mostly white community): they need to be forced into rehab to help them recover. #WhiteSupremacy

Absolutely the addicts support group must be disassociated in order for the patient to recover from the drug narcosis effectively. Lifestyle change is the most important ingredient for success.
