Time for the West to finally face facts: China isn't going to embrace its values, writes @abrownewsjhttp://on.wsj.com/2z2Qvc2

why is the West obsessed into thinking that their values are the best?

The same reason you drew a distinction just now. Google the term acculturation. The internet dissolved the communication barriers associated with physical borders. Other boundaries remain, but the bottom-line is global acculturation. Hope ur a fan of the dialectical process.

Well, if what we need to achieve is global acculturation, then why not the West try to adapt to Eastern values? I was merely saying, why is the West think its values are the best.

I hear you. What i failed to point out i suppose is it will. The two will change each other eventually. Ita inevitable. I think its already happening. You've probably seen it as well.

China has been a negative force since the Korean War. We were terrified of their involvement in Viet Nam as well

Fear of China caused no win strategies in the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts that uneccesarily killed and maimed hundreds of thousands of Americans in their prime.

Perhaps the West could benefit as much from respecting the foundations of Chinese culture, such as Confucius and Taoism, as it expects the Chinese to respect, for example, the Greek philosophers and Christianity. We need to evolve a new world view.

West has the luxury if waiting. But the small nation around China are trembling in fear. Japan and S.korea pretty much impotent. USA may have to start something like NATO with like minded. Countries for common defence or just give in to China and is control of South China Sea.

I disagree, not due to a sense of foolish insecurity, but due to the inherent nature of cultural exchange. Ppl dont just assimilate culture, they process it. Culture is information, and the process by which that info is exchanged requires synthesis. The result is dialectical.

That may be, but one thing that should be clear to any and all neither is the current and prevailing Communism rule. Chinese are not going to be able to put up with this nasty Communist Party rule much longer.

That's not to say it isn't a screwed up country with moral problems, and we need to watch our backs with them.
