Worked in legal education for 15 years. This isn't because we need more lawyers. It's because word's finally getting out the the field is over-saturated. They want your tuition dollars, and odds are you'll leave with a mountain of debt, but not a job to cover the expenses.pic.twitter.com/9ZhwF89Man

Bingo. Even though there is a glut of lawyers out there, the law schools themselves are struggling.
-
the ABA has done the profession a huge disservice by accrediting so many law schools in the past 10 years. the degree has been dramatically devalued.
-
Good point. The ABA needs to weed out the poorly-taught law schools
-
The ABA serves mainly to limit entry. It's a racket.
-
I think the bar exam itself will become defunct by 2030
-
The bar exam is a good idea. The JD is a racket.
-
That has more or less been my view for a while now. I also think the ABA suffers from, as many professional organizations now do, significant mission creep. By the way, my cousin is a proud, current UVA student. Loves the school. Sadly he....wants to go to law school!

need more engineers and doctors, not more lawyers.
-
We actually despertly need more defense lawyers. Corporate and injury, sure. But defense of poor ppl against the state, we need more of that.
-
Dream job. Just started studying for LSAT. Is it true it's not necessary anymore?
-
idk, but at this point - i'd think you still need the LSATs for the best schools. law school enrollment is down and so schools have to be less choosy with whom they take. but be wary of the debt. if the
#taxbill goes through you wont be able to deduct any of the costs. -
Eliminating exemption for student loans will pressure schools to lower tuition prices.

Not to mention, I have way too many lawyer friends who are saddled with crippling debt from student loans and can only find moderately paying jobs doing document review...
-
Thank you very much, helpful group of random people. I'll keep studying for LSAT but will keep my options open, I'm already drowning in student loan debt - THANKS again. One of my professors paid $400/year for law school in the 60s. What a time to be alive :-(

The only 2 things we need more of are skilled and unskilled labor. End of story. LegalZoom will take some of these jobs.
-
Legal field's been over-populated for awhile now, but guess this is an effort to get a different type of student, not necessarily more students. Legal Zoom is only for very simplified legal documents for very simple needs, it wouldn't likely replace a lawyer.
-
Correct on LegalZoom as of now. But in the future it will gain momentum. One of my favorite customers is an attorney and he informed me of this.
-
only time will tell, but Legal Zoom wont go to court for you.
-
All I need is my tools LOL
-
Legal Zoom is designed for those who may need the simple solution for an issue. Many legal issues have multiple facets to them. IMO, move to GRE is all about $. Law school admissions down. I went to law school and it’s a great education, but could perhaps be shortened a little.
-
The field was flooded, it's probably going back down where it should be. But I honestly don't know how it could be shortened. There's a lot to know, and only so much time and energy to study it.
-
Must fields are flooded, except for.....wait for it......skilled trades! LOL
