Congressional Republicans have been pushing for changes to welfare programs, such as tougher work requirements for food stampshttp://on.wsj.com/2Av3uCp

Yeah, we really need to crack down on the working poor, rather than, I don't know, stop heaping trillions of dollars in tax cuts on corporations and billionaires. #RepublicanPriorities

The problem is that those who want to work more hours are limited by the lack of quality daycare available to them. So toughening work requirements tends to seriously hurt those most in need: recipients with young kids.

I worked minimum wage & had 2 kids in daycare. I realized that w/ benefits + wages I made ends meet but had nothing left 4 savings AND I was effectively paying strangers 2 raise my kids while I worked as many hours as I could get to help get us out of that mess. Why not fix THAT?

Eventually I found the way out was to stop using daycare, stay at home with my kids until they got into public school, and just try making a bit of money doing odd jobs and selling things from home. THAT and finally getting child support was what eventually got us off welfare.

If the work requirements had been more stringent, I would have never gotten out of that initial situation.

Yep food stamp should not be for junk food.. Like candy, cupcakes,sodas... But, they do need soap and toilet paper. It is abused to much.
