A CVS-Aetna deal would create a health-care-industry behemoth selling everything from drugs to insurancehttp://on.wsj.com/2Bx1kCu

The @GOP claims to support a free market economy, while companies are consolidating to become monopolies or near monopolies. Free market encourage price competition, monopolies lead to price increases - because they can.

If a mega company monopolized and raised prices...you insinuate that people would be aware, would we not attempt to create a competitively prices alternative to what they are doing? Would we not revolt?

Of course people could attempt. Best case scenario, a competitor would be able to join the market, but that would take time and investment. In industries like pharma, patent law protects existing companies, and testing requires millions of $$ and an extensive testing process.

Well of course, it would take a person with knowledge of the laws and with capital..but is it not possible, at least logically possible? Probability wise...a tough battle, but not entirely improbable. I think we often forget that we are free individuals, and we overcome in need

Monopolies are found in industries where there are high barriers to entry, like cost and time. Many also include regulations that prevent new companies - pharma is a great example.

I don’t think that added much to what I stated. Though it is true that we make every effort to prevent monopolies, I don’t think it actually increases a competitive market. For instance, mobile devices are operated primarily by 4 “mini-monopolies” driving price up as an example

You're right. Monopolies don't increase a competitive market.
