Here’s the rub: the HSA doesn’t grow if you have to use it for HEALTH CARE. Which is what it’s for. How many people can afford to pay premiums AND fully fund an HSA AND pay out of pocket for doctors’ visits?

I love my 1% growth in my HSA

but really, it is stunning how much larger your paycheck is w/o payroll taxes if you throw a whole paycheck in a couple of times a year.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

All for the wealthy few who can afford to take advantage of that and aren't drowning

RIGHT. I'm incredibly lucky that I can even afford to contribute to my account to take advantage of the payroll tax benefits.

Except they can't tell you the allowed benefit in advance so consumers can't choose between a tradition plan and a high deductible HSA plan. The insurer always wins.

HSA's are only effective if you don't touch them until you are able to save enough money to cover your high deductible! I have a $4000 deductible!!!! Anyone with kids or a chronic illness will not benefit.

Clarification: Not employer plans.

All plans. Did you mean "Deductable"? becuase Deductables for HSAs are higher than FSAs but your HSA deductable is usually your yearly out of pocket maximum.
-
