Opinion: It is now deplorable to offer "thoughts and prayers" for the First Baptist church families http://on.wsj.com/2yGrYee  by @wjmcgurn

I am an ordained minister in a conservative denomination who has devoted the last 20 years to full-time Christian ministry. "Thoughts and prayers" are important in my life. They also aren't enough to solve this problem. The book of James is an important read on this topic.

Faith without deeds is dead. If one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

I am a WSJ subscriber but you should be embarrassed to publish this insulting piece. The author distorts facts to push a culture war issue.

The Wall Street Journal used to be a reliable source of information. A cornerstone of the industry. It now is reduced to click bait.

This is disingenuous - we can't rely only on prayers - these people were praying - maybe the answer is to do something! Public health & safety is a stake

No - it is deplorable to ONLY offer thoughts and prayers when you have the ability to take action that could prevent future tragedies.

Fact: This article rests on a shamefully false premise, thereby exploiting the tragedy to further a political narrative. Sad.

Considering these people were devout Christians, it is not. But to NOT do anything after is deplorable.

Stop trying to create drama. People died violently. We have tried praying for every victim. It hasn’t worked. Let’s try a novel approach instead. Gun laws, domestic violence laws, and mental health care.

The WSJ writer needs to understand that have been offering thoughts and prayers for years, yet the death toll continues to increase. We need to start taking action.

Or we would like the people that can do something to prevent tragedies to do something instead of just offering thoughts and prayers.
