The GOP tax plan would effectively end thousands of dollars of built-in discounts for buyers of electric carshttp://on.wsj.com/2zsUjF0

Fine, if they end petro-subsidies, and make both technologies pay for externals.

It's ridiculous the way liberal MSM focuses on cuts for the few and ignores the benefits for the many.

Yay! Another big GOP "Eff You!" to the environment. At least they are consistent with their "live like there's no tomorrow" attitude

??? From a system with a much lower carbon footprint than combustion engines...that’s the whole point of electric cars.

What of the “carbon footprint” of the required electrical-power generation and the Li-Ion batteries? US ranks 8th for Li mining.

Still lower. The entire chain has been analyzed. Electric come out on top even with all other factors accounted for.

What’s lower is the energy density of batteries compared to a tank of petrol. What’s higher is the volatility of Li-chemistry batteries.

“Volatility” is not really measurable, and yes petrol is amazingly energy dense, but again still no other viable way to slow CO2 output

“‘Volatility’ is not really measurable...” Then why was the use of pure nitroglycerin in demolition supplanted by dynamite?

It was unfair to begin with. Electric cars have not sold like Obama thought it would. Instead Americans are buying SUVs. Families love them.
