Marriage is declining because it's archaic and unnecessary. Women aren't as dependant on men, and fewer people are cowed by religion.

I think a better reason is because weddings and large purchases, such as homes, are expensive and younger people don't have the finances.

Weddings don't have to be expensive and apartments work just fine. It's more a cultural issue than a financial one.

I can't deny some cultural aspect to it, but debt and a sluggish economy have to be, on some level, contributing.
