Opinion: “You’re welcome” has been replaced. Now it's “No problem” as far as the ear can hear, writes Gregg Opelkahttp://on.wsj.com/2fRVqTf

“No problem” implies there was a problem. Say “you’re welcome.” It informs the person one has been has served and SHOULD be thankful.

People who use "no problem" when thanked should be fined $1,000.

My biggest pet peeve. We get the "no problem" response because WE are doing the thank you's, rather than the service/hospitality person!

Drives me nuts too. So pervasive I heard my 85 yr old (very well mannered) dad say it recently. We're doomed. 😐

I sometimes enjoy just standing there looking at them, waiting for a thank you. After a few seconds say 'you r welcome' to yourself out loud
