Tales of college graduates paralyzed by student loan burdens are wildly exaggerated in some corners of the countryhttp://on.wsj.com/2xvQxsS

How about this? In the richest country in the fucking world our kids take ten or twenty fucking years to pay back debt on bullshit wages.

I graduated 10 years ago and will still be paying 10 years from now. It is indeed crippling. At 18, though, loans seem like only option

Nothing against those who serve, but joining the military is not for everyone. That can't be end-all solution for out of control uni costs

No discussion of graduate school loans makes this article moot. You might get a job out of college, but only in a few fields.

Funny how student debt seems universally portrayed in the media as a burden put upon borrowers, rather than something they themselves chose.

If you have no college savings or family to pay 4 higher education, it is the only choice. The military does not pay 4 a full education.

living at home, attending comm college for 2 years, transferring to State U requires much less debt than Private U. Choices matter

What home? Not all high school graduates have free rent. Comm colleges in some states saves only $2k- 3k per yr https://www.communitycollegereview.com/avg-tuition-stats/national-data …

Point taken. My area CC=$2500/yr, private college =$45000 + room and board. Substantial savings for CC the State U ($11k/yr + room/board)

What happened to just not borrowing money you can't pay back? And when did individuals making bad choices become the taxpayers' problem?

Not always a bad choice. I paid back $200k+ & never any type of taxpayer burden. Offering a diff perspective.

Borrowing for college is not in itself a bad thing. Borrowing money you can't afford to pay back (for anything) is.

Who cares what someone is paying in Utah. There's issues with securing employment after college & student loan debt is killing graduates.
