Will the feds make @Equifax give us all 2 years free credit monitoring as a result of the secure screw up? Can we opt out for safety sake?

When the F will cowardly Congress make any company that keeps our private information encrypt that information and not just a firewall?
-
Encryption doesn't help in this case. It likely was encrypted but someone got the key

-
They only had a firewall. That's all that is required by current federal law. States differ though.
-
Either way. It should be under military standard of security or they shouldn't be allowed to have it! +How do other countries handle credit?

Entrusted with vastly private financial details of 143 million & they blew it. Disbandment of this co. and prosecutions should surely follow

We are not their customers. We are the products- & now victims. Hope this raises awareness about the credit score system, which is unfair

They had the lives of a nation in their hands (+they knew they were the top hacking target in the world) and didn't take security seriously.

I found a way to sign up for the Equifax monitoring now to credit freeze, and TransUnion has a free service now too.http://nerdsquawk.com/equifax-data-breach-what-to-do/ …
-
Are you kidding me? They're the ones who can't secure our data to save their lives!
-
I chose to freeze my credit. You can choose to do nothing. That's your choice.
-
Perhaps I may, but not with them

You aren't the customer, you're the product to them. They have your credit profile whether you like it or not; gotta contact them to freeze.
-
That's cool I'll just contact my congressional reps. You know their chief security officer has a music degree from UGA?
