Wouldn't it be nice if this read, "Growing teacher shortage is forcing states to offer teachers higher salaries?"

Bottom line, teachers are underpaid. If they were treated like bankers, I bet you'd get a lot more people in teaching careers.

Terrible response. Should offer better incentives to become a teacher (with higher standards).

Great. Less qualified teachers for our kids. Here's a novel idea... pay teachers more than poverty level wages and attract qualified peeps

"Poverty level." Ha! I know 3 teachers. They all make TWICE the median income in my state + great benefits and a pension.

Not in SC. Simply not the case in many areas. I don't know a single teacher who's wealthy from teaching. 3 of my sister's are teachers.

I have a grad degree and teach college. I CANNOT teach high school in my state without teaching credentials. How does that make sense?

Wrong answer. Dumbing down educators is a bad idea. Pay them more and provide affordable college options.
