Many U.S. children missed school to watch the recent eclipse, not always with their school’s blessinghttp://on.wsj.com/2vvfIvI

As an educator the answer is YES! A day or two out of school here n there but doing something meanful with family is so important to kids

In 1958 my parents kept us home from school to watch NASA's first launch! My mother was school's physics teacher.

I started school the Tuesday after Labor Day. It was more than enough.

Can you imagine being the asshole who tells a child they can't go see the eclipse because they have to learn shapes?

Any school that wouldn't suppose a student going to see totality is not worth attending.

Whenever I want. I'm not going to let my kids miss once in a lifetime things with their family. I'm the parent, and I get to choose

Family time is always better than school time. With longer days, years and excessive home work, schools already demand to much time.

It's okay whenever the parents decided it's okay. The kids do not belong to the state, the school, or the federal government.

Tuesday after Labor Day here which is perfect. It's not easy lining up family vacation at work competing with others competing for time.

You must be from the NorthEast. Most of the US started in early August, while some in July. Ridiculously long school year.
