Maybe a stipend for add'l expenses like meals beyond the set dining hall hours and a trip home 1x-2x a year. Shouldn't have to get a job.

You wouldn't pay for it. D1 & D2 Athletic Departments are huge money-makers & marketers. Hence the issue of players not getting paid

There is no need to "pay" them. Allow them to make money off their likeness. Best way to let the market work rather than paying everyone.

Return college sports to students who were admitted as scholars.

Spin the whole enterprise off entirely. The fact that a college coach is highest paid state employee in just about every state is absurd.

I love sports but I love the intellectual life as well. No reason that they need to be coupled. In Europe plenty of amateur teams became pro

I like the Greek idea of including fitness in the academic life but this is a farce. The most serious schools don't have athletic programs.

Agreed! Univ. of Chicago once won the Natl Champ. in Football. They folded the program the next year.

The rest of the kids don't generate millions of dollars in TV, merch, and licensing revenue either. What they get is a drop in the bucket.

NCAA and NFL won't let them. Again they don't have that kind of control. It would be bad for the college business.

If you're referring to them going pro, the nfl rosters (the largest of the major sports) are limited to 53 plus 10 practice squad.

There is no guarantee that any college graduate will get a job with their degree (and most of them have significant debt - no free rides).

Then you picked the wrong major. The jobs are there. And this wasn't the original argument. Have a great day.
