Wal-Mart has 15% fewer workers per square foot than a decade ago. The reason? Robotshttp://on.wsj.com/2uIgqEZ

But just keep pushing for $15/hr. Surely that will improve the situation.

The difference between $12 an hour and $15 probably doesn't factor into whether Wal-Mart automates. Machines are always much cheaper.

If a machine can do a job you don't want to, do you want it to take its sweet time? Or do you want it to take over for you ASAP?

Go into any Walmart, the hours they're saving (and jobs they're cutting) are coming from the sales floor, not cashier's.

Robots aren't taking those jobs, those jobs are just being cut and responsibilities being shifted. The reason isn't robots, it's dividends

Automisation of activities co shared with IT evolution&reduced volume of business owing to presence of potential competitors may be reasons.

Nicely nuanced answer. And unless an economic explanation is nuanced or prefaced with "all other factors constant," it's bunk.

Econonic! Volume of business naturaly have been snatches by other competitors to have risen much later to Walmart the stalwart to have been.

At my local grocery store only 1 employee monitors the 6 self checkouts. Still a loss of 5 cashiers.

The concept of working for a living will have to be fundamentally revised within a generation or 2 (or 3). Machines will do most everything.
