        and how many farms hav been consolidated - rather look at overall area of land actually being farmed. Most farms have become commercial

        I'm a farmer here in TN 10% of farms cease to produce yearly. The next generation doesn't want to farm. It's toooo hard!

        there may be need for incentives then. EU has many subsidized schemes to provide aid (and protection) to farming industry.

        Well, sure. Starting w/ FDR's Ag Act then Wallace's policies of the 70's, but Monsanto's lobbyists have big $ & influence
