You have daily US data since 1853? I haven't seen daily data going back that far.

That's right. Monthly to 1918, then weekly to 1927. Presidencies started on 4th of month till after 1927, so monthly not too bad.

I wanted to be precise so went with daily. I guess also a surprise win/lose could mean that 1 day would matter a lot!

That is true if we measure from date of election but I went from date of inauguration (usually a few months after election).

Ah, I did my table both with election to inauguration and term of office, so really had to be daily.
