tipping from TIPS - to insure prompt service, usually paid at start of meal (think Grease Money) to get taken care of quickly

then American way screws it all up by making servers dependent on tips and expectation for customers skyrockets by paying as % of bill

all restaurants should go to no tipping and increase food costs 15%. Good deeds done by servers will earn customers, not a few extra $

The logic that only tipping makes service workers nice to us ignores all of the untipped, great ones we encounter everyday.

If you take away tipping the service you rcv may drop. If you are going to stop tipping increase the wages to make up for lost income.

I haven't found that tipping guarantees good service. Jobs will still be performance-based.
