        1347-1352 Bubonic Plague, 1914-1918 WW1, 1939-1945 WW2 I'm sure there's many more but any of those years were far worse than 2016

        I'd say 1914 was a bad year. As was 1316 when the Great Famine resulted in the Great Dying in Europe. Half the population died.
