@WSJ if only some passengers not put their jackets or purses in the overhead there would be more room for all.

@AliMac59 if you don't want to sit with those, put them in your checked bags. Some of us need to carry luggage with us. -
@gary_vasquez@WSJ Purses, lap tops & bags are/contain small items for journey. Can't see why vast majority of larger cases aren't checked. -
@AliMac59 I carry expensive equipment that fits into a carry on size bag, so I prefer to not check it and risk equipment being damaged.
