What I learnt in nursing school is that when they initially started measuring people's temps to figure out what normal was, they were generally doing it in the afternoon, when our temp is about the highest. We normally cycle. In other words, it was skewed high to begin with.
-
Interesting, my mom always told me later in the day your temp would always be at its highest (so don’t panic and think meds aren’t working). She had zero medical training, but what I find interesting is how much older generations knew just on common sense and instinct.

Whenever I've had my body temp taken and I have no fever it is always lower than the norm. I figured that was normal for me.
-
Same here, I’ve known my normal body temp was about 97.6 for 35-40 years. Lol

My body temp is 97.6, and has been for forty years. If it is 98.6, it is because I am sick, have a fever, chills, body aches, and need to see a doctor.

1 whole degree higher

We are living beings that adapt to their environments in order to survive, it would make sense that our internal temp would decrease as our external temp increased. Why is this surprising? How are we so far behind this basic understanding of homeostasis and species adaption?

Did they change the headline? Mine just reads "New study has shown that the human body has changed over time."
