Our govt needs less fatalists like @BenSasse in office. Now is a time, more than ever, for optimism.

It is the Tea Party every man or woman for themselves crowd that have created this problem.

Really? I feel like a lot of what is going wrong in this country is a result of what is happening in DC.

Well, Ben’s right. Because right now everything happening in DC is leading us towards authoritarian rule. With his help too.

This is the natural result of embracing multiculturalism and diversity. We should start embracing unity again. Find things to bind us together, celebrate our commonalities, not our differences. Make the symbols of the USA something to be proud of.

Or... what if we could all just see that multiculturalism and diversity are what makes the US unique and amazing in the world. It’s why we are the best nation on earth.

Because it's not. The melting pot makes us stronger. Diversity opposes this engine.

Disagree. Diversity (of thought, of experience) consistently shown to produce better results and decision making over the long term.https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-diversity-makes-us-smarter/ …

It is good about talking about the problem. It is not good in the fact that it vacates the responsibility that Tea Party conservatives have in creating this screw the poor mentality.

Being an independent, i am struggling with labeling, dismissing, blaming the views i disagree with. It does make me sad that common values: honesty, compassion, integrity do not seem to unite us as much anymore. I dont know what the answer is I just hope that good will prevail.

I agree with the premise, but I also think that part of our responsibility to call out those who work to divide us. Sasse supports a form of objectivism that excuses one's responsibility to our neighbors and has lead to the lessened sense of community.
