The U.S. economy still leads the world, say Alan Greenspan and Adrian Wooldridge, but growth will continue to stall without key reforms in federal entitlements and banking rules.https://on.wsj.com/2CHpEpe

Social Security and Medicare are not entitlements. People paid for them and once you all the qualifications for Social Security benefits are met (having enough work credits, being the right age, etc.) then you are considered eligible for benefits you paid for.

Bank rule is to hold any gain for the common people and huge gain for the top 1%,the greedy;what it mean poverty....no myth. Lower the interest rate.

Never trust Greenspan. He is a prime mover of the FED controls the economy. Get interest rates off the express elevator.

Hope book goes farther than super simplistic approaches in article: pumping up bank reserves and entitlement reform. It says nothing of complex globally entwined economy. Books like #Crashed shed light on how regulatory and ethical lapses outside US also drive herd mentality.

The all-important first step in saving the American economy was taken by President Trump and the Republicans when they cut regulations and passed the recent tax law to restore economic growth. We’re now in a position to make hard decisions about cutting spending in entitlements.

Fascinating how Greenie calls the Great Recession an “overreaction” when he talked about “irrational exuberance” prior to it. Asset values were incredibly out of wack and regulatory oversight was misplaced with too much emphasis on Patriot Act vs safety and soundness.

In long run for your grand children, spending is critical to be gotten under control. Nations who lend us money will charge exorbitant interest & that portion of budget will dwarf existing programs. Time to adjust retirement age among other programs is NOW, 35 yrs before to late.

Cutting taxes should not have happened.

Can't disagree, although to solve problem it will require far more belt tightening, and long range multi year planning. Not an easy fix.

Be sure to only include "Entitlements" in the entitlement basket! Social Security and Medicare have payments from the recipients and therefore are NOT entitlements !

Greenspan had the opportunity to fix the fed casino gambling economy and did nothing. He knew all along that the economy was rigged

You can't touch entitlement programs in the US. Ryan had a fix for Medicare but the liberals went absolutely stupid with lies and other claims to stop it and end the discussion.
