Opinion: Gov. Scott Walker’s collective-bargaining reforms have saved Wisconsin from becoming a fiscal basket case like Illinois, and a new study suggests they are improving student learning toohttps://on.wsj.com/2CGNH7G

First of all, the study cited was not a published study. Nor is the sole peer reviewer identified. This is not exactly robust review.

Second, the headline conclusion that Act 10 implementation is "associated" with increased math proficiency is intentionally misleading. A declarative statement supported by data would use language like "statistically significant relationship" or "conclusive".

The study's own analysis actually indicates the "Economically Disadvantaged Students" variable is the most statistically significant variable in predicting math scores, not Act 10 implementation.

The real word conclusion is likely that reduced state funding and involvement in K-12 education has led to more localized school districts. Meaning, higher property values in the burbs leads to better outcomes at the expense of the urban students...which is basically Wisconsin.

And most other states in the Union I would guess. The outcomes have much more to do with what is going on at home than what is going on at school. Unless and until a stable family structure returns to urban areas, those outcomes are likely to persist

With what? Is Wisconsin a basket case in your opinion or is the study wrong?

He participated in eliminating some academic dept. at UW. Some could argue for philosophy as a necessary subject in the bigger scheme of things. But what happened to the high speed rail that he vetoed?

The study was done by a partisan gop org. Zero chance it is not biased. Are there any actual non-partisan education organizations that support this?

I was referring to education study. Yes, Ill is a mess, on the otherhand MN is not, and is in most ways closer to WI economy. And MN and WI have very different approaches.

This is a super reasonable analysis as long as you don't care about facts. Didn't you guys just endorse a neo-fascist in Brazil who says the junta's downfall was that it didn't murder enough people?

The difference between the financial situations in Wisconsin and Illinois has nothing to do with Walker's union busting on behalf of his moneyed overlords. Walker wanted to defund his political opposition, not be fiscally responsible.
