They're failing to realize that many see public school in part as daycare. Wonder if they checked with the parents on this. And how bad does a job need to be where working at it 8 months per year is too much to ask?

Public schools are becoming all about tests and teachers. They aren't safe, physically or mentally. And they waste enormous amounts of time. Parents are going back to teaching their own kids because the system is failing miserably. Home School is our past and future.

But good teachers needn't worry. Rich parents will hire tutors. Parents who need to work will form parent run private schools who hire teachers. Working conditions will be great. Bad teachers, well, you chose that whole union thing.

This is totally moronic. It is NOT unions that caused this. Ppl like you did. Underfund, underpay teachers show them NO respect and what do you get? What’s left when everyone that can, leaves. Now you want to turn the entire nation illiterate. NCLB was a for profit initiative. 1

Unions shielded bad teachers and focused on eliminating competition as they always do. The eight graders graduating in 1850 were better educated than today's high school graduates. Parent run schools work. Union run ones don't.

Schools, all schools and all colleges, are administratively bloated. Too many non-teachers on the payroll. Put hiring freeze on for any job with the title: director, assoc. director, analyst, etc.

Four days of school won’t resolve the salary of teachers. Or do you want the to have an extra day to get a second job? Raise teachers salary. End.

I think this is a great concept...some corporations have implemented a similar schedule to improve productivity and strengthen employee retention...I’ve experienced it firsthand and I can say it makes a big difference!

Disgraceful. USA, the wealthiest country in the world with already the lowest literacy and numeracy rates, making further cut backs in Education....shame!

Unfortunately, we are not the wealthiest country in the world. According to the IMF, we are the 12th wealthiest country while Qatar takes number 1.

And yet the republicans just gave trillions away in tax cuts for the rich. Need to simply confiscate that money.
