Dumb but serious question: why a special law? Isn’t sexual harassment & assault already covered?

It should be a civil crime to abuse ANYONE. Geez. This shouldn't be hard to understand.

So you would have the government make regulation specific to church matters? Laws are already on the books that cover unwanted physical contact. Why would you want to make new laws specific to clergy?

Stop priests from abusing anyone in any way. Have them removed from serving as pastor at any church and turn the case over to the police. The Church itself should turn over any evidence it. Church has shown it cannot investigate itself.

Why not let the clergy be HUMAN and let them marry? With this unnatural rule in force, they will find novel ways to hide their crimes & a few decades later, the Pope will once again be shedding crocodile tears for the victims.

I think they maybe need to let priests choose to marry or not depending upon their career aspirations. They need to bring back any priests who left to get married. I think having female priests is a step too far for them. What they need to do is give the laity a much bigger role

Canon law should severely punish those who violate their vow of celibacy where there is no abuse of power, and require laicization where abuse of authority is concerned. However, nothing that we all consider to be sexually criminal isn't already criminal in the secular system.

Or alternatively stop preying on everyone. It’s no wonder there are so many empty pews. Your Piety is shot through with your hypocrisy.
