Canada’s dairy farmers depend on a decades-old system to protect production. It was long viewed as sacrosanct, but Nafta talks are forcing a rethinkhttps://on.wsj.com/2OlzqPZ

Ironically Trump's pressure on Canadian dairy subsidies is going to benefit Canadian consumers the most. Canadians should be thanking Trump for this.

It's not subsidies. It's a set price to ensure farmers make enough to live. The US pays subsidies cause their farmers can't make a living. A small increase in the Canadian market isn't going to fix that. US dairy farmers want supply management. Big business opposes it.

Nope. If you don't buy the product you don't pay the farmers. That's a choice lacking in the states. Everybody pays no matter what. Add the amount in subs (hidden cost) to the price of milk. Thinking you pay less or have an option is delusional.

??? The US wholesale price for milk is set on a federal level. The milk price is set based on: Supply and demand on an int'l market Influence from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange How far away the dairy farm is from their consumer base And fedl and state price support programs

Everybody doesn't pay no matter what? It's a very similar concept but the prices are lower in the US because there's less US government interference than in Canada, that's the whole point.
