Who should pick up the tab for date? Is paying a sign of caring, or power? No one really knows anymore. And the question is only becoming more baffling in the #MeToo era.https://on.wsj.com/2Pvbzxj

This isn't complicated at all. The one asking pays and the one invited can choose to go Dutch. People are really over-thinking it or looking to find fault somewhere in a very simple scenario.

Maybe you could just try talking to your partner and learn about their values and views? You'll suddenly have the answer and many more very soon!

It’s simple - if you ask someone out on a date you pay. After that you work it out between yourselves. It’s not rocket science - it’s called good manners.

I miss the time when love was simple, before we stupidly turned our backs on good old mitosis.

The new thing is to go Dutch. Supposedly, it empowers the woman to pay for her own meal and doesn’t make her feel obligated to “thank” him later. But ladies, if a guy is expecting something for a meal, walk away. You’re not that cheap and he’s classless for suggesting so.

I mean, presumably one still has to navigate a few dates in order to get there

I thank God every day that I am married and not in the dating scene. I feel bad for single people trying to find that special someone.

Guys, always show respect, even if they don't deserve it. That means always pick up the tab. If you don't want to be out of pocket because she may turn out to be a dud, keep it cheap and cheerful.
