A pair of academics offer a dramatic rule to increase competitiveness—and cut almost a half-hour from a nine-inning game, writes @JasonGayhttps://on.wsj.com/2PgUFCw

I am a traditionalist but I kept an open mind while reading and i think this would increase pace and urgency. It might have some unintended consequences for hitters lower in the order with a few less at bats but I think it would be worth a try!!

Baseball is NOT too long or too slow. This pair of academics (enough said) just don’t like baseball. Back off, for Pete’s sake.

This is laughable. Also laughable is the suggestion that baseball needs to be saved. Talk to the 2014 Houston Astros fans and ask them if losing games worked out well for the overall health of the franchise.

That’s absurd, just Limit pitches per AB. 4 fouls and you’re out. Will also result in lower pitch counts, mound visits and pitching changes

I don’t think it’s a horrible idea, I don’t like having the bases loaded in a tie game and walking or your 9 getting a single to bring you to the top with the bases loaded and the inning is over. I think I’m the inning you’re in you still get 3 but after you get 2.

The king of making baseball fun was Bill Veeck, who inspired the ebook, "Ball Games - There Are Many Ways to Score," along with Harry Caray, Jimmy Piersall and Mae West.

Baseball has plenty of competition. Blow out games happen in every sport. Take out an inning or 2 if you want shorter games.

Worthy of consideration. Also, two words: pitch clock. Works like a basketball shot clock. Make the pitch or else it’s a called ball.
