FACT 1: Socialism is “Collective ownership of the means of production and distribution”. FACT 2: The people of Venezuela do not collectively own the means of production and distribution. FACT 3: When you examine the previous facts, Venezuela obviously does not have socialism.

The failure of Venezuela has nothing to do with socialism but with weak institutions and weak democracy.

My god what a stupid article. What about socialism in Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, France, Italy, are all those countries collapsing because they are all socialist. Pathetic paper, destroyed by the Murdoch family.

Very good, well written & concise piece. I believe in the fundamental assertions here. I am a capitalist. However, capitalists hold an arrogance afforded by the government interventions we saw during the 2008 financial crises. The true effect of capitalisms failure was not allowed.

Socialism is not a “bad” idea. It’s the worst idea of human kind. But sure socialists defend it all the time like those replies here. I really hope they could go back to China’s 1960s and enjoy the class-free money-free utopian.

Stop with the lies. It’s amusing how scared the establishment is of socialism for the average American but not for corporations or 1%.

Socialism is not evil unto itself, but it allows for corruption more than any other system.
