Trump's zero-tariff idea could give the U.S. a way to re-engage with trading partners who have dismissed the administration as hopelessly protectionisthttps://on.wsj.com/2PEEikn

Is this a joke? He’s the one that introduced unilateral tariffs and bypassed the @WTO.

Trump is a master troll. He doesn't want zero tariffs, he just wants to use the idea to make the other side look bad.

Trump's pitch for zero tariffs makes the president’s supporters look worse. They alternate between defending the need for tariffs and gushing over free trade, depending on what the president said that day.

Not exactly. If you need to use tariffs to get to free trade, so be it. But what other tools should he use? The just calling his base stupid doesn’t help any argument

You don't need tariffs to get free trade. Many, many trade agreements have been negotiated without enacting tariffs.

That’s not where we are. We have many many agreements already in place. 45 feels they aren’t in the USA’s best interest and is trying to change that.

I realize that, but he has axed more trade agreements than he has created. I question both his method and his sincerity at wanting free trade.

Except the "no tariff" idea, while good, is not something he's actually working toward

@POTUS @vp @marcorubio @SecretaryPerry @ENERGY @JohnCornyn @GovMikeHuckabee Great idea! Zero tariffs both directions on our exports AND on our imports! That's fair, equitable and ethical.
