Wasn’t flight simulation games what the 9/11 terrorists used for training?!? 🤔🇺🇸

They attended actual flight schools. Flight simulators weren’t too advanced in 2001

Sucks they don't learn to land.

I haven’t read the article, but the headline feels like a story that will have an unhappy ending.

Just like people think since they played call of duty they can handle combat.

Not saying they could fly, but if you’re talking about “instrument only” flight.... how would a simulator be any different?

It goes by feel as well when you are flying. I know flying by IVR is acceptable but to truely get the ability you would need hands on.

No disagreement there. But “ability” has a pretty broad span. My daughter is “able” to walk, but she’s only 1, so she’s definitely not good at it. I think there’s a good chance a simulator player could fly a plane in mid flight, maybe even take off, but probably not very well

Home simulators are great but in no way can someone fly safely with just strictly sim experience. Real world human ATC to deal with, airspace clearances, Instrument departures, charts & approach plates to monitor. Not to mention safety and time critical things, Etc. abnormal ops.

The guy out in Washington who recently stole a plane flew around, did a loop da loop, and utilized a lot of the plane's capabilities. he actually told the F16 pilots tailing him that he's just played some video games in the past. Granted we wont know if he couldve landed or not.

My best friend from school is a commercial pilot. Sometimes I I think she is a bit of pillock ! But I would rather fly with her than some jock who has played on a simulator. Likewise I would rather my GP had been to medical school rather than done a couple of online courses.

While I agree that real world experience is needed, pilots learn using simulators now a days. It’s very reasonable given how advanced they are to assume someone could take off and land a plane in average conditions after practicing for hundreds of hours on a simulator.
