This is lame, WSJ, you got your tax breaks, bailouts, what else do you want to exploit? The environment so we can breathe crappy air, not be able to swim in the ocean because of oil spills? This is pathetic.

There’s a saying in the West: Whiskey’s for drinking and water’s for fighting. California’s water issues are complex, but record temps sparked these fires, not policy. When the WSJ proves it understands the politics of water in the West, I will take its prescriptions seriously.

I appreciate the hard hitting insight on a Friday night! I'll admit the 10/1 stat was a little out of context and attention grabbing. Would be more interesting to see whats being done/spent on prevention of these fires rather than the after the fact cleanup.

My father-in-law, a wildlife biologist, has told me many times that the “greenies” have no clue what they are doing and that many of their policies end up doing more harm than good in the end. We need people living out in the country to be making these policies..not city folk.

Dead trees naturally decompose and add nutrients back to the soil (even when burned). Clearing dead trees and deadfall depletes the soil and contributes to erosion.
