After WTO entry, China became the world’s manufacturing floor. Research shows Chinese competition cost the U.S. 2.4 million jobs between 1999 and 2011, battering factory towns.https://on.wsj.com/2LIW4Dy

So Americans are ok to give free money to poor countries but not ok to let poor countries work their way out of poverty. No wonder Americans give their farmer subsidies while give aids to African countries.

Lower pay jobs migrate to China, giving the US the opportunity to access lower prices of goods. How is this bad for a develep country? Develop economies should focus on education and innovation which provides higher salaries for their population.

The US wasn’t selfless. US capital saw a huge opportunity to make obscene profits. As long as it was having an easy time in China, not a peep in the press about US workers. Only now as native capital offers serious competition do you hear this populist rhetoric. Utter hypocrisy.

China's "factory towns" look like something out of a scary movie. Government was so desperate for jobs for its massive poor population it sacrificed much of its landscape and environment. Yes people prefer that to starvation, but Americans would not allow what that govt did.

Big mistake. And Clinton helped speed up their ascent. Anyone remember Loral Space systems? China was going to rise, inevitably, but we didn't need to surrender our manufacturing and let them steal our secrets to accomplish it.
