We were discussing this topic at the Omicron factory today. It is really interesting how parties in the US flip flop.

That is a very good point... especially with the trend for materials import as opposed to "products based" imports ramping up. Opportunities for local, rather than corporate production of goods now abound due to new tech.

Seems most of my friends are making their own products now. Programmers are becoming fabricators at a fast clip. So far- a different prognostication than Feynman told me once- that we needed less general engineers+more chemists. #DuplicationCurve

Nowadays we can look at it from the perspective of CNC vs 3D printers. 3D printers seem crude but the concept of dropping blobs... materials will get better and print resolutions will get smaller. Eventually getting to where Feynam predicted I suppose.

Am probably too old to be waiting for the 'neighborhood logic gate printer" biz to show up but seems like both circuits+housing will eventually all be produced locally from plans. Pay for the plan+make the product. A very awesome era is coming.

Keep in mind that 3D printing is now taught in both high schools and Boy Scouts. In high school - along with traditional lathe processes + CNC.
