If you don’t have savings, you should be reducing your expenses in order to save, not asking for handouts from your family and friends. You can also start a side hustle - start a blog, drive with Uber, sell makeup, etc. Get your expenses down and your income up!

This is not realistic advice for many. Many of us already work full-time jobs and have low expenses, but are stuck w/high rents. There's no way I'll be able to save $15,000 for a downpayment on a house (which is 3% here in Seattle). I 'wish' I had friends & family to borrow from.
-
“Stuck with high rent”... you can move to an area with lower rent, get roommates, take public transportation, etc. If “full time” work is only 40 hours per week, you can start a side hustle and work another 10-20 hours/week. Totally realistic. It’s all about how bad you want it!

I take it you're unfamiliar with the housing situation here in Seattle. There aren't lower rents. Anyway, I get your drift. Work your life away so you can own a home. Thanks, but no thanks. Life is too short already.
-
I get that rents are high. No one is forcing you to live in Seattle though. Move outside the city and take public transport. Find another job outside the city. Sacrifice now to gain in the long run. Easier said than done, but that’s what it takes. Hope it works out for ya though!

I’ve never been to Seattle or Washington state so I’m not sure how it is. but for most young single people, that is a huge risk to move from the city to a rural area. finding work is a huge enough task not to mention the potential social and psychological isolation.
-
We’re not suggesting moving so far away from an area that you would lose a job or not be able to see family members. We’re suggesting moving 20-30 minutes outside the city where rents are typically lower.
-
again I can’t speak for Seattle, but in the LA area, to move beyond the housing “bubble” area would mean moving ~30-40 miles out of central LA which equates to a minimum commute of 2 hours each way. that’s 20 hours a week! not to mention, now you live in the middle of nowhere.

Don't have savings, because they don't have jobs and live in their parents basements until 30. That's what happens when people feel entitled to everything for nothing.

You joined the army. You spent years as a grown man being babysat. You are not the voice of personal responsibility.

If you can't put 20% down at minimum don't even try to buy a house.
-
Meaning most of us will never own a home.
-
Meaning most of you have to lower your sights for your first home.
-
It's possible to buy a decent sized house for 50k. People that don't think owning a home is possible usually have unrealistic ideas about the location of their first house. Sometimes you have to go a bit rural (drive to work) instead of looking for a house in the city.

A decent sized house for 50k HAHAHAH

You can get a brand new lakefront cabin on 2 acres in north carolina for $90k.

Holy shit, how could someone ever deal with clean air and being able to hear themselves think?
