I think the comparisons to the Holocaust is less about the current situation being at the same level of atrocity as the Holocaust. Rather it is that the Holocaust didn’t start as the Holocaust. It’s the small infringements that go unopposed that allowed it to become what it was.

It also implies a progression is imminent. Kids aren’t being taken to gas chambers and their parents aren’t being turned into slaves. Can’t think of a comp other than Nazi’s or holocaust? Then don’t make one. Why can’t we just say why it’s wrong without the historical framing?

Why are you certain progression isn’t imminent? Was criminalization of a people one of the methods used to dehumanize before the Holocaust? Just wondering.... I think if people had a better example of why all citizens should be watchful they’d use it.

The holocaust began when a nation removed the rights of its OWN citizens based on their ETHNICITY or RELIGION and then progressed to the industrialized murder of THEIR OWN citizens. Please, explain to me how the current is the same and a similar progression should be expected?

The point is being missed. NAZI Germany wasn't made overnight. Of course we are not equivalent to that TODAY, but are there warning signs and similarities to pre-Nazi Germany that should be acknowledged? That's the point - read @GenMhayden comments before we get so defensive.

Trump's critics are comparing him to Hitler because of Trump's concentration camps, Trump smearing the press, and Trump's language regarding immigrants. Obama's critics called him Hitler because he wanted more people to have health insurance, and less criminals to have guns.

No, we're not. We see a disturbing pattern that reminds us of a history we do not want repeated. We are sounding an alarm and we hope and pray people will heed the warning before it is too late.

You think it’s desecration of the Holocaust to bring it up in the context of children internment camps? Absolutely not, Holocaust is not a RESERVED WORD anymore, history is repeating itself at the hands of @Israel against the Palestinians and @realDonaldTrump against children.pic.twitter.com/TdtFBs1xro
