Very complex topic to define what is fair... In principle against tariffs, but realize that less developed countries need them... But Europe? Maybe it is fair to pursue reasonable / similar trade balances across countries with simular GDPs...

Now Germans will get a less expensive automobile, but US car manufacturers will need to design cars to suit the German market; and include fuel efficiency, reliability and service in their portfolio - and we all win!

If they do that, they're playing into Trump's hand. If it's not car-import tariffs, it will be something else in the future. German is not that far from Russia. Do you want to risk losing your country to concede to Trump's demands?

According to the Handelsblatt the Association of Carmakers (VdA) denies having made any unilateral concessions or having agreed upon the isolated abolition of tariffs on automobiles. The VdA supports the abolition of trade barriers in the context of a comprehensive agreement.
