        Arriving at a border crossing and declaring my intention to claim asylum to CBP agent is not an 'illegal entry'. I may be rejected and turned back, but I have broken no laws nor was l deceitful.

        Exactly, given that one is at a port of entry and not yet in the USA. Families are not separated in that circumstance. This is an example of getting informed.
