hold up there.. you can't spring that stuff on a kid when they become a teen. Independence should be nurtured and encouraged from as early an age as possible. Parents need to be patient while the kid learns to do for themselves (don't get rushed & do it for them)

it starts with the smallest / simplest things - putting on socks / clothing / picking up toys / making choices (between limited options). It's a pattern of thinking that develops that allows the child to know they have the skills to do for themselves.

Out of curiosity, what does independence have to do with a kid wearing bubble wrap? Wouldn't that point more to individuality?
